Kalutara Pagoda
Add this place to one of your
tour destination wish list as this place is one of the main religious places in
Kalutara district. Visit this place while your in your Sri Lanka Holidays Founded by Sir.Cyril De Zoysa, this pagoda received lot of
funding from 3rd party sources to build to the place where it is
today.
The
development activities of the Kalutara Pagoda in the recent past has that
it has been with the Buddhist society of Kalutara which was established in 1931
through hard work made by Sir Cyril De Zoysa. In 1942 with the beginning of
development activities in the lower porch, the summit of the chithya was
laid.
After
the Sri Lanka became independent, following a appeal made by Sir Cyril De Zoysa
from the first Prime Minister of the country, Right Honorable D.S. Senanayaka,
the then Assistant Government Agent of Kalutara, Mr. Silva took step to release
the kahcheryi on the uda maluwa.
Since
it was felt that there should be a legal authority to facilitate the
development activities, the Bodhi Trust pioneered by Sir Cyril De Zoysa, was
established on November 11th 1951. Thereafter, with land around the sacred
Bo Tree being entrusted to the Kalutara Pagoda Trust by the Government, the
